Towards the end of the month, we had our info session, for the event, we needed a projector, electricity to make the event work, so we decided to use a hub close to school, we did designs for it, posted it on facebook groups, school groups, twitter, mouth to mouth. We addressed classes, spoke with people face to face to attend the session.
On Friday 26th October 2019, We had about 20 people that attended from the community, 4 from School.
We were sad, really sad that upon the publicity we did in School, only 4 people made it.
We understood the distance from School to the Hub is far. So we did a review of the event and discovered most people didn’t come cos of the hurdle of getting to town from school.
So we decided we’ll take the meetings to them in School.
From the submissions we had from the Interest form, we sent out emails consisting of courses links for Students to enrol for depending on their interest.
We also observed most of the students had low idea about digital skills, We sent them basic courses.
We had people lead each track we focused on
Android Development Ayooluwa
Web Development Victor Red
Product Designs Stanley Mberede
Machine Learning Ikechukwu Achom
Digital Marketing Mercy Ikpe
We sent them courses from learndigitalwith google site.
every week, the Leads are to check on the members, on WhatsApp, we created a different group for each track, with their leads, to allow smaller groups for the leads to manage.
We had weekly reports from the Leads, the progress of each person, the challenge and recommendation.
This method brought the members closer to the leads.
I made contact with the Lead of each class or department in the school. In order to reach every department and every level, we decided it would be wise to pass through their course reps. We met with course reps and discussed DSC with them, then get their contacts, share the group’s facebook, twitter and WhatsApp links so they can share it in their department groups.
This method helped create awareness for the club.
